Australians join Spain in lead
Written by Bruce Young

20081129_owc_dpm_1231The Australians produced a whirlwind finish at the Omega World Cup at Mission Hills in Shenzhen China and have joined the Spanish team in the lead as the event heads into the final day of Foursomes tomorrow.

Having trailed the Spaniards for most of the day, the tournament took on a whole new look when Brendan hit a superb 9 iron second the the par five 15th and converted from 6 feet and with the Spaniards taking bogey at the same hole the two teams were tied.

The Spaniards went ahead again at the 16th but then Brendan birdied the last from 5 feet after a fine pitching wedge approach to draw level again. The leading teams are four shots clear of the pre tournament favourties, Sweden.

With US1.6 million (A$2.4 million) going to the winning team in tomorrow's final round there is a lot at stake, but the Australians are well placed to claim the coveted title.
