Brendan agonises over final nine holes
Written by Bruce Young

brendan-final-round-pgaIt was a bitterly disappointed Brendan who spoke of his troubles late in the final round of the PGA Championship.

"I have never felt so disappointed in my life," said Brendan a couple of hours after posting a final round of 77and eventually finishing 24th at Hazeltine National. "It was an absolute nightmare out there that back nine. I'm gutted."

"I can only start to talking about it now. I played great the first 10 holes. I did not miss a shot and missed three from close range also in reaching the turn in 35. I three putted the 11th and the floodgates opened. It is a very disappointing end to what had been a good week."

Brendan began the day at 2 under and what was a tough day all round for scoring began with a bogey at the first. He bounced back at the long third with a birdie there to get back to two under and then hit a great second to the 7th to 18 feet to set up an eagle opportunity which would have moved him to 4 under. He missed but at 3 under he was very well placed.

Brendan then safely negotiated the demanding 8th, 9th and 10th holes but as he said earlier a three putt at the 11th set in train a run of dropped shots.

While today has been hard to take it is Brendan's best finish in a major championship by far and he will now have a few days off in Dallas before heading to Japan for next week's Vanan H Cup KBC Augusta event in Fukuoka.
