Brendan made play early with a very good approach to five feet at the first and went one up. The pair traded birdies over the first nine holes with Scott one ahead at the turn. The staus quo remained until the par three 16th where Scott's birdie gave him a two hole buffer and when they both birdied the par five 17th it was all over. Brendan finished his 17 holes at three under while Scott was at six under.
"I played pretty well but made a couple of silly mistakes that cost me. I three putted the 13th from 20 feet when a two putt would have got me back to square and to some extent I struggled with the altitude in terms of distance control but overall I played ok." Brendan will earn US$40,000 for his first round loss and now heads back to Australia. There is a chance that Brendan may yet get a start in the Arnold Palmer event at Bay Hill in mid March but if not he will definitely play the World Golf Championship CA event at Doral in Florida the following week (March 20th) before the first event of the Japan season in mid April. |
