Brendan has been beaten at the third extra hole at the Mitsubishi Diamond event in Ibaraki Prefecture near Tokyo after 38 year old Takashi Kanemoto produced a superb birdie from the fairway bunker to win his first Japan Golf Tour event.
Brendan, who started the final day two ahead, was holding all challengers at bay throughout the final round before Kanemoto birdied the 15th and 16th holes to draw level.
The pair then played the par four 18th three times before a winner could be found, Kanemoto going on to win the ¥30 million first prize while Brendan earned ¥15 million or A$196,000
"Takashi putted superbly today and hit an awesome fairway bunker shot at the final hole of the playoff," said Brendan not long after his round. "Of course I am disappointed not to have won but am happy with my week and am looking forward to the next couple of weeks."
Brendan will play next week's Japan Tour Championship at Shishido Hills again in Ibaraki followed by the Japan PGA Championship in Hokkaido |
