With the field for the 2009 WGC Accenture Match Play Championship to be finalised next Tuesday (Feb 17th), Brendan faces an anxious wait over the next few days. Currently the 62nd placed player in the world ranking, Brendan needs to be inside the top 64 in order to earn the right to play in the elite field at the Ritz Carlton Golf Club in Dove Mountain in Arizona.
"I'm eagerly awaiting the finalisation of the field," said Brendan from his home in Canberra. "I've done a few calculations and if I lose a tournament from my divisor then my point average will likely improve slightly. I will still need for those behind me not to move forward too much but I am keen to play that's for sure."
The possibility of one or two players not being eligible might also help Brendan's cause but it may be that he gets in either way.
Brendan played in the event last year bowing out in the first round after a tight battle with Adam Scott. He lost his match 2 & 1 but will have learned by the experience of playing in such an altitude for the first occasion. Interestingly his home course at Royal Canberra is also well above sea level but not to the extent of Dove Mountain.
