Brendan has recovered from a poor start to his final round at the Japan PGA Championship, birdies at four of his final five holes moving him back inside the top ten and eventually securing a 6th place finish for him.
Playing 36 holes on the final day, Brendan recorded a round of 2 over 72 in the morning before heading out in the final round in a share of 9th place and eight shots behind the winner.
It wasn't the start Brendan was after however as by the time he bogeyed the 10th hole he was 3 over for the day and going nowwhere but backwards. Then came the late rush with the four birdies in the final five holes and a week that was a lot better than what is was looking in mid afternoon.
"I was very happy with the last five holes in particular," said Brendan before heading to Tokyo to catch a flight back to Australia. "I played pretty poorly most of the day and then the last 9 holes I played great. I putted terribly for most of the day and then holed 4 putts from over 15 feet in the last 5 holes. Go figure!!!!"
Brendan remains in 5th position on the Japan Golf Tour with earnings of ¥27,663,133 or $A346,000.
Brendan will now head home to Canberra for one week before possibly returning for the Gateway to the Mizuno Open where, with a top four finish, he could earn a start at the Open Championship at Turnberry. Brendan will decide on that later this week. |
