Brendan in the mix for the weekend
Written by Bruce Young

brendan_follow_through Brendan has recorded a second round of 70 at the HSBC New Zealand PGA Championship and finds himself in 13th place as round two draws to a close.

The weather disrupted second round may or may not get finished on Friday but it will matter little to Brendan who was out early and suffered only minor disruption from the break in play for a rain soaked golf course. Brendan made considerable progress on day two after what had been a disappoiting finish to his opening round and a slow start to his round today.

At 5.30 New Zealand time, Brendan was within four shots of the lead.

Bogeys at the par five 10th, which was his first hole today, and at the shortish par four 12th had Brendan at two over early and at that stage one over for the tournament. He birdied the potentially dangerous 13th and the reachable par four 14th and he was quickly back to where he started the day.

After a bogey at the 18th, Brendan made the turn in one over 37 but the opening few holes at Clearwater provide a few opportunities and Brendan took nearly full advantage. He would birdie four of the first five holes of his back nine, including the two par fives, and found himself back to four under for the tournament at that stage. He dropped a shot at the par four 7th hole (his 16th) but finished with 70 and is in reasonably good shape for tomorrow's third round.

Brendan finished runner up at this venue three years ago on his way to a fine Nationwide Tour season in 2004.
