Brendan in the thick of things at PGA
Written by Bruce Young

brendan-18th-green-pga-fridAn early tee time (8.15am) on day two for Brendan at the PGA Championship and he took advantage with a round of two under par 70 and at 3 under he is very well placed as the afternoon field takes to the course.

The breeze, which admittedly strengthened to a strong wind later in the morning, was present from the beginning of his round but Brendan made a solid start with five consecutive pars before a bogey at the 6th.

"I missed the fairway and the green at the 6th, had a difficult chip and ran it 15 feet past," said Brendan after his round. "I then hit a good drive at the next, the par five and hit a 7 iron for my second to 25 feet or so and hit a good putt which shaved the hole but made birdie."

Brendan then reeled off a series of pars before reaching the shortened par four 14th on which the tournament set up committee had brought the tees forward 50 yards or so. "I hit a 4 wood to 15 feet and made it for eagle," added Brendan. "I made a good save at the last from 15 feet or so after missing the fairway but overall there were very few mistakes."

"I played really well and didn't do anything silly. The conditions certainly got more difficult the further we went but having played a lot of my early golf in windy conditions on the south coast  of NSW I don't really mind it. You have to use the wind rather than fight it and I tried to do that today although a couple of drives got away on me."
