Brendan has staged a great late burst at the Tsuruya Open to finish alone in 4th position in an event he has come to consider his own. With three victories in the event, two of those at this week's venue, the Yamanohara Golf Club, Brendan was one of the pre tournament favourites but a slow start in an event reduced to 54 holes by poor weather and his task was always going to be difficult.
Entering today's final round Brendan was six shots off the eventual winner, Hiroyuki Fujita's, lead and in a share of 11th position. Things were not looking to good when he bogeyed the 14th today to be languishing some seven shots behind. An eagle at the 15th however and a birdie at the last eventually closed the gap to five and while he acknowledges he was not going to win the event he was delighted with his finish.
"I holed it from 15 feet from the fringe on 15 feet and then from 6 feet at the last and while I was always a bit too far back it was great to finish the event off the way I did," said Brendan. "I love this place," he added referring to his great record in the event.
Brendan will now play the final event in this three week stretch in Japan, the Crowns in Nagoya. |
