Solid start for Brendan at J.B. Were Masters
Written by Bruce Young
Thursday, 15 December 2011

Brendan has pieced together a solid afternoon round on day one of the J.B. Were Masters at the Victoria Golf Club in Melbourne and is well placed as the tournament heads into tomorrow's second round.

With the afternoon breezes strengthening as the day wore on, Brendan faced an increasingly difficult golf course but after an early bogey he fought his way back to finish at two under par 69.

He birdied the par five 9th then after a bogey at the 11th he hit an excellent approach to the downhill par four 12th and holed from 12 feet for birdie to get back to even par.

He then challenged the reachable par four 15th and two putted for birdie. Then, after his tee shot found the bunker at the 17th, he salvaged par and then got up and down after a huge drive at the par five 18th for one final birdie.

Tomorrow Brendan should experience excellent morning conditions tomorrow with a tee off time of 7.46.

Today was an encouraging start.
